PARISH OF EAST BERGHOLT
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN
that a Casual Vacancy has arisen in the Office of Councillor for the Parish Council.
Appointments to the Parish Council are made every four years and a new Parish Council is due to be formed on the 2nd May 2019. If there are more nominations for Councillors than the number of seats available (13) then this will result in an election to appoint the new Councillors.
In the meantime, any person interested in applying for co-option onto the existing Council should contact the Parish Clerk - Susan Clements for more information about who is eligible to apply - contact details as below.

Suffolk County Council - Important Information - Suffolk School Travel Changes from September 2019
Suffolk County Council is implementing changes to its School Travel Policy from September 2019. The County Council has written to all local Schools about this. Please contact your local School or the County Council for more information.

Parish Clerk Surgery
From January 2019 the Clerk will have a pop-up session in the Fountain Tea Room in the Village for an hour each month for a trial period of 6 months. Local residents may wish to come along and see Susan and have a chat or ask any questions about the Parish Council. Keep an eye on the website and notice boards for the day and time of the first session. Susan will vary the day and time to try and accommodate as many local people as possible. (See photo of Clerk). Susan works weekdays and it is normally better to catch her during weekday mornings. She looks forward to meeting with you.

New Parish Councillor for East Bergholt Parish Council
The Parish Council welcomes a new co-opted Parish Councillor - Lois Hickey. Lois has lived in East Bergholt for 18 years. She is interested in the environment, sustainability, Green matters and social issues. Lois lives at Old Hall. She is a University Lecturer in mental health and teaches nurses.
New Customer Information for Local Residents at Hadleigh Library
Babergh District Council invites residents to come along to their second Customer Access Point pop-up at Hadleigh Library. Council staff will be on hand once a week to offer local residents the opportunity to meet face to face. In coming weeks, there will also be a permanent iPad for customers to use anytime during the library opening hours to access online Council services. The pop-up opens on Thursday 18 October 2018 and will run for a period of three months. You can find the Team at Hadleigh Library, 29 High Street, Hadleigh, Suffolk, IP7 5AG on Thursday afternoons from 1.30-5pm.
Remembering the War with East Bergholt Primary School
A gathering at the War Graves took place on the 8th November 2018 with local primary school pupils, representatives from the Parish Council, The Royal British Legion and Rev Canon Stephne van der Toorn. Poppies were laid by the children on the War Graves. (See photos in Documents folder under Photographs).
Parish Council Budget & Precept for 2019-2020
After detailed consideration and meetings of all Committees of the Parish Council (representing different areas of responsibility within our Village), a Budget/Precept for 2019-2020 of £145,000.00 was resolved. Including;
The Parish Council is committed to continue to ensure that East Bergholt is a good place to live, work and visit.
Our Library Service
Many East Bergholt residents enjoy the services of both Manningtree Library and our Suffolk Mobile Library. Both are included in a "5 year review" with Manningtree listed as a possible closure. If you value this "wellbeing" service and would like to see future generations enjoy libraries too, please complete the survey found online before the 20th February 2019. Please also note the Public Meeting about Manningtree Library on Friday 18th January at 6.30pm in The Ball Room, Foundry Court, Colchester Road, Manningtree, CO11 1EJ.
Burglaries in East Bergholt and Surrounding Villages
Please be aware that the local Police have advised that a break in took place on the 6th November 2018 at a house in East Bergholt. The back door was smashed during the evening.
Please be extra careful about locking doors and windows. With the run up to the festive period local residents will no doubt have extra valuables in their houses, so again extra care with security is recommended.
Remembrance Event - Sunday 11th November 2018 - St Mary's Church, East Bergholt - 10am
The Parish Council will be giving thanks and remembering all those who paid the ultimate sacrifice and will be helping to mark the first World War centenary. (See Photographs).
RECYCLING CENTRE EAST BERGHOLT- A recycling centre for East Bergholt has opened in the Coach Park, East Bergholt High School, Heath Road. For your own convenience please avoid school day start and end times. The Coach Park is only open when the school is open or an outdoor event is using the coach park.
Broadband Update - Fibre is here we have Fibre to the Cabinet and the promise of a higher speed broadband. Unfortunately there are parts of the village that will be unable to access this service. Visit http://www.betterbroadbandsuffolk.com to check your postcode. If you want to upgrade, contact your internet provider.
